River of Grass Committees
At River of Grass there are a variety of ways to demonstrate your commitment to our community and to the community at large. Our committees are the means by which we actively create a better world for ourselves and for the greater community.
Caring Committee: This compassionate group of volunteers assists members who are in need of meals, hospital or home visits, help with errands, and transportation. Caring Committee Members offer just the right amount of loving care when it is needed the most. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
Community Awareness Committee: Works in a variety of ways to make our Unitarian Universalist presence known in western Broward county. The committee is responsible for our website, email addresses, a Facebook page, Reflections Newsletter, RoG branding, and brochures, to name just a few.
Facilities Committee:These are the folks that work behind the scenes to keep our facility in good repair and looking good! They are responsible, also, for overseeing the facility rental process and responding to onsite facility emergencies. When they get the word out, magical things (putting up hurricane shutters or preparing the sanctuary after an event) get done!
Faith Development Committee: This committee researches, plans, and implements the Sunday School Program for children from birth through high school, and organizes several family-oriented events annually. They are committed to offering our children a comfortable, meaningful and fun congregational life, and supporting the dedicated group of volunteer religious education teachers.
Finance Committee: Handles the day-to-day financial matters for the congregation, monitors expenses, and prepares the annual budget.
fUUndraising Committee: This group organizes the annual auction and other fundraising events held throughout the year. They promote awareness of each event, organize ticket sales, secure donations, and publish the annual auction catalog.
Hospitality Committee: While you are enjoying that cup of coffee or tea (or yummy snack) on a Sunday morning, you can thank this group of volunteers that make sure that there's plenty to go around each week! Contact: email@example.com.
Membership Committee: This committee reaches out to those who are searching for a progressive religious home. They are responsible for greeting visitors at Sunday services and following up with emails or phone calls. They also sponsor events to help visitors, friends, and new members get to know River of Grass (and each other) better.
Newsletter Team: This group collects and edits articles of interest to our community and publishes our
monthly newsletter, Reflections. For a copy of our latest newsletter, click here. To reach our Newsletter Editor, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Service and Social Justice Committee (SSJC): Provides members and friends with a variety of opportunities to express their UU faith through service that may include working with community service agencies or developing projects unique to our own congregation. Contact: email@example.com
Shared Ministry Committee: Coordinates covenant and affinity groups, and assists in developing new small groups. The committee works to find ways to encourage all River of Grass members to discover their gifts -- their ministry -- and to connect with opportunities that feed their soul and nourish our congregation.
Worship Committee: Sunday worship service is one of the pillars of our congregational life. Assisted by our many lay volunteers, the Worship Committee is responsible for the coordination of our worship services. The Committee is responsible, also, for the logistics of Sunday worship service including setting up, providing audio-visual support, ushering, and collecting the offering.
River of Grass Small Groups
The mission of Small Group Ministries is to enrich our congregational community through diverse programs that meet the spiritual, communal, and relational needs of our members.
bUUkies: We are a community of book lovers, seeking to bond and connect at a deeper level through a shared love of the written word. We welcome all wishing to explore the complexity of life, spirituality, and the human experience. We honor our third Unitarian Universalist principle by accepting and encouraging differing views within our group and our fourth principle by supporting a free and responsible search for truth and meaning through our selection of books and group discussions. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
Covenant Groups: Covenant Groups are small groups (no more than 12 people) whose members meet at least once or twice a month to discuss and share their insights about a spiritual topic or issue. The goal of a Covenant Group is to simply provide a safe place where people can get to know each other and share the contents of their minds and hearts. Contact: email@example.com
Circle Dinners: These gatherings are a great way to get to know each other in small informal groups, sharing good food and friendship. The potluck dinners are hosted by a member, usually in their home.
Full Moon Daughters:
Seeking to build an inter-generational community of women and girls, to bond through a shared love of nature. We welcome the personal search for meaning through activities and spiritual fellowship that connect us with the earth and each other. We honor our Seventh Principal through our respect of the interconnected web of life.
Men's Group: An opportunity for men to share hopes, dreams, frustrations, resentments, anger, joy and all other feelings in a safe and supportive environment with other men of progressive religious beliefs. Open to all ages, as well as members and nonmembers of River of Grass. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
River of GREENS: The River of GREENS is open to all interested in living our principles through ethical eating and the use of organic, sustainable fruits and vegetables, whenever possible.
